Support for DatesPeriodsToDate MDX Functions

This functionality addresses the differences in how Microsoft handles filtered YTD subtotal and grand-total calculations in Tabular and Multidimensional (MDX) models.

In the past, there's been an issue faced by AtScale BI users who are used to using the Tabular DatesYTD( ) function. When they start using an AtScale PeriodToDate MDX expression in a Filtered/Sliced PBI matrix visualization, the subtotal and grand-total results don't match the Tabular DatesYTD( ) results.

  • With this new feature, users can expect the AtScale YTD response to return subtotal and grand-total results that match the Tabular DatesYTD( ) results.

Support for Dynamic Default Member Expressions

Until now, AtScale only supported static expressions for ‘default member literal expressions.’  With this new capability, customers can now set Default Member Expressions for time hierarchy (examples: today, yesterday, current month).

  • Value to a Model Architect & Data Engineer
    • One-time configuration of an expression that changes the default member automatically over time.
    • Increased adoption of “Default Dimension Member” filters will further reduce the data warehouse workload.
  • Value to a Business Intelligence Tool User
    • Queries will run more quickly because sensible default dimension filters will be applied.  This is especially applicable for an initial load of a dashboard.
    • When the hierarchy with a default dimension member is used in a report filter, the report displays the default dimension member as the default filter.
  • Value to a Data Warehouse Administrator
    • This feature will further reduce the load on the downstream data warehouse.

Improved Support for Calculation Groups

This enhanced capability allows using the base measure’s format string during query processing of calculation groups.

  • Data model designers can now configure a specific Calculation Group’s calculation to use the input measure’s format string rather than a static format string to correctly format a calculation across any possible input measure(s).
  • BI users can now build a report that crosses a Calculation Group with an arbitrary set of measures and has the results use the measures' format string. This will eliminate the need to manually handle special-case formatting situations or repeat formatting operations in different reports.

Improved Support for Semi-additive Measures

This update enables the non-additive dimension configuration to support nested dimensions.

Support for Map Visualization Function in Looker

This capability supports the ‘CONCAT_WS’ function, which brings value to BI users by making data visible in the context of maps in Looker reports.
